Muffle
sterling silver, earbud
2024
A sterling silver earcuff inspired by the act of muffling sound with noise-canceling headphones. Often, I find myself wearing my headphones without any media playing just for the soothing veil on harsh sounds. To fit this relationship, the cuff was smithed to only fit when worn with an earbud. To integrate the idea of “muffling,” the piece was smithed through a process of muffled marks. the interior was texturized with drawings carved into the surface before the forming process dulled my marks with some areas of the drawing being completely erased by my hammer. I wanted the interior to be vibrant in comparison to the exterior to reflect how wearing the structure allows my mind to focus and outer clutter to dissipate.
